Adele tops the U.S. charts throughout 2011
UK singer Adele has taken the United States music scene by storm. Her album, entitled ’21′, was first launched in the UK and then subsequently in the United States in February 2011. The album had immediate success and is still on track to round out the year with having the highest grossing sales for any album in the United States for the year.
Adele, with her soulful sound, pop and jazz appeal and sultry lyrics appeals to a wide listening audience, Her appeal is best represented through the millions of albums sold throughout the world, with indicators pointing towards in excess of over 10 million copies being sold prior to the holiday buying season getting in to full swing. Digital downloads of songs such as ‘Rolling in the Deep’ have further helped to propel Adele to superstar status. The major hit from ’21′ is ‘Someone Like You’ and has surpassed all other digital sales and now takes the top spot as the most downloaded songfor 2011.Success is expected to continue for Adele who is working on a third and much anticipated album. The North American leg of her worldwide tour sold out, however, in the fall of 2011 Adele was forced to cancel the remainder of her tour as she recovers from surgery impacting her vocal cords and throat.
